Aluminized Steel Pipe: Composition and Benefits

Composition

Aluminized steel pipes are made from Aluminized steel plates, containing 90% aluminum and 10% silicon. This combination of iron and aluminum—the two most common metals—enhances the pipe’s properties. The pipe thickness ranges from 0.5 to 2.5mm, with a coating thickness between 80 to 300g/㎡ (double-sided).

Key Benefits

  1. High Plasticity and Ductility:
The material is easy to process and shape, making it ideal for automotive applications.
  2. Excellent Heat Resistance and Dissipation:
The unique combination of substrate and coating forms an iron-aluminum alloy, providing outstanding heat resistance. The coating remains effective up to 650℃, maintaining the protective layer without peeling. This makes aluminized steel pipes suitable for automotive parts that require high heat dissipation.
  3. Corrosion Resistance:
During the hot-dip plating process, the aluminum reacts with oxygen to form a stable Al2O3 protective layer. This layer is insoluble in water and self-heals when scratched, ensuring strong resistance to chemical corrosion. These pipes are commonly used in automobile exhaust systems where high corrosion resistance is essential.
  4. Environmental and Ecological Benefits:
With the shift towards new energy vehicles, environmental protection has become increasingly important. Aluminized steel pipes meet strict environmental and safety standards, making them a preferred choice in the automotive industry.

Why Are Aluminized Steel Pipes More Expensive?

  1. High Raw Material Costs:
The cost of raw materials is approximately 1,500 yuan per ton higher than galvanized steel.
  2. Slow Production Speed:
Production of aluminum-silicon tubes is slower, at 20-30 meters per minute, which is only a quarter of the speed of high-frequency welded tubes.
  3. High Testing Costs:
Each roll of raw material requires extensive testing, including weld strength, bending, and pressure tests. This thorough inspection process increases both production time and cost.
  4. High Processing Costs:
Due to the brittle and thick coating, careful handling and advanced equipment are needed to ensure the quality of the finished pipes. This level of precision limits the number of high-quality processing plants in China.
  5. Superior Weld Repair:
Aluminum wire is used to repair welds, ensuring rust and corrosion resistance. This is a key differentiator from manufacturers who may use cheaper zinc wire, leading to pipeline corrosion. These meticulous details help determine the product’s reliability.
