Composition of Aluminized Steel Pipe

Aluminized steel pipes are made from aluminized steel plates, containing 90% aluminum and 10% silicon. This combination of iron and aluminum, two of the most commonly used metals, results in a steel pipe with unique properties. Our company offers pipes with thicknesses ranging from 0.5 to 2.5 mm and coating thicknesses from 80 to 300 g/㎡ (double-sided).

Advantages of Aluminized Steel Pipe

  1. Strong Plasticity and High Ductility
These pipes are easy to process and shape, making them ideal for use in the automotive industry.
  2. High Temperature Resistance and Heat Dissipation
The specific combination of substrate and coating forms an iron-aluminum alloy, providing excellent high-temperature resistance. At 450℃, the pipes maintain high reflectivity, while above 480℃, they develop a gray appearance. Even at temperatures up to 650℃, the protective layer prevents oxidation without any shedding, meeting the high heat dissipation requirements of automotive components.
  3. Corrosion Resistance
During the hot-dip plating process, molten aluminum reacts with oxygen to form an Al2O3 protective layer, passivating the steel surface. This stable, water-insoluble layer self-heals if scratched, offering strong resistance to chemical corrosion. As a result, aluminized steel pipes are commonly used in automotive exhaust systems, where corrosion resistance is crucial.
  4. Environmental Protection
With increasing focus on environmental issues, aluminized steel pipes align with the strict environmental and safety standards required for automotive components, especially in the shift towards new energy vehicles.

Why Are Aluminized Steel Pipes More Expensive?

  1. High Raw Material Costs
The cost is about 1,500 yuan per ton higher than galvanized steel.
  2. Slow Production Speed
Aluminum-silicon tubes are produced at 20-30 meters per minute, a quarter of the speed of high-frequency welded tubes.
  3. High Testing Costs
Each roll of raw material requires testing, including weld strength, bending, and pressure tests, which increases production time and cost.
  4. High Processing Costs
Due to the brittle and thick coating, production requires advanced processes and equipment to ensure quality, limiting high-quality production to a few factories in China.
  5. Quality Weld Repairs
Aluminum wire is used to repair welds, ensuring rust and corrosion resistance, unlike some manufacturers who use cheaper zinc wire, which can lead to pipeline corrosion.

For products with coatings from 240g to 300g, the scrap rate is high, making consistent production challenging. Even capable producers often face delivery delays due to this issue, affecting project timelines.
