The Role of Aluminized Steel on Exhaust Pipes

Aluminized Steel on exhaust pipes serves as a heat insulator and provides high-temperature resistance. It helps to increase the temperature of exhaust gases and improve engine power. The exhaust pipe, positioned between the engine exhaust manifold and the muffler, allows for a flexible connection of the entire exhaust system. This flexibility reduces vibration and noise, facilitates installation, and extends the lifespan of the exhaust muffler system.

1. Principle of Exhaust Pipe Muffler

The muffler is constructed from aluminum-plated steel or stainless steel. It typically consists of a resonance chamber, an expansion chamber, and a series of porous pipes. Some mufflers contain heat-resistant, sound-absorbing materials, such as fiberglass or asbestos.

As exhaust gases flow into the expansion and resonance chambers through the porous pipe, they frequently change direction. This process gradually reduces their pressure and pressure pulsation, consuming energy and ultimately lowering exhaust noise.

2. Structure and Installation

The muffler consists of a shell, inner shell, partitions, and inlet and outlet pipes. The muffler shell is welded from double-layer steel plates with an insulating layer in between. The inner shell is corrugated, creating an exhaust channel with the outer shell’s inner wall. This design helps to reduce sound pressure and diffuse sound waves, enhancing the silencing effect.

Sometimes, the muffler alone cannot meet automobile exhaust noise standards. In such cases, a resonator, which resembles a small muffler, is added to the exhaust system to further reduce noise levels. The resonator and muffler are connected in series to enhance noise reduction.

The muffler is usually installed between the catalytic converter and the exhaust tailpipe, near the car’s center. However, due to space limitations, it is often placed at the rear. In this position, the lower temperature causes more water vapor to condense into water, leading to rust in the muffler.
